Why book this course?

The term ‘blue-sky thinking’ is a cliche for a reason. The business environment is not always amenable to innovation, and it’s easy to feel that your creativity is being stifled. From a heavy workload to strict processes and protocols, the absence of creativity can limit your problem solving abilities, and prevent you from delivering effective solutions.

Our Problem Solving and Strategic Decision Making course will help you to understand the mechanics of creativity and innovation, and the ways to let them flourish. You’ll learn how to nurture and encourage creativity within your organisation, discuss methods and models for effective problem solving, and learn to apply a more analytical mindset.

Who is the course for?

The Problem Solving and Strategic Decision Making course is ideal for managers and directors who want to explore new problem solving and decision making techniques, and who are serious about driving creativity in their organisations.

However, the techniques and theories discussed in this course, and the practical exercises undertaken, have lessons that can be applied at all levels. Any employee who relies on creativity or problem solving in their day-to-day work will benefit from this course.

What content will the course cover?

  • Understand what is meant by creativity and innovation

  • Discuss what encourages and stifles creativity within the business

  • Appreciation of relevant Creativity and Innovation theory

  • Practical exercises to experience different techniques for idea generation

  • Discuss and develop an understanding of how to implement innovation

  • Learn how to think more analytically in your decision making

  • Learn creative thinking techniques including the 6 thinking hats model for facilitating discussion and problem solving

  • Understand the structure of the problem-solving process

  • Tools and techniques for creative solutions including the Fishbone technique for cause and effect analysis

  • Work individually applying models to delegate’s own situation

  • Facilitated discussion of the results.

What will I get out of the training?

Learners will explore a range of different ways to generate original ideas, and how to implement them effectively. By talking through and working with different techniques, you’ll gain a greater understanding of how you can become more creative when facing problems or changes, and how to instil this creativity in your organisation.

Central to our training is the way we engage with our learners, and tailor our courses to their needs. As well as discussing new methods for creative thinking and problem solving with your peers, we’ll explore the unique circumstances of your business, and your own approach to creativity - helping you to gain the most relevant information and advice.

What is my experience

I have been fortunate enough to have worked across the globe, with over 20 years in senior management and training roles. Throughout this time, I have gained a wealth of experience working across a diverse range of teams, cultures, and industries.

My roles in learning and development have been across both the private and public sector. These included working as a European Training Manager, based in Italy, as well as Senior Lecturer, delivering customer service training to NVQ's levels 2 & 3. Whilst working as Head of Training at a Kent based consultancy, I also headed up the delivery of ILM programmes and became the Internal Verifier for all courses up to level 7.
