This two-day HR Essentials for Managers course will introduce you to the fundamentals of HR Management, providing you with the relevant information you will need if you have limited HR experience. You’ll learn about the employment life cycle, the processes for recruiting new staff, and how to manage performance in a legal and effective manner.

Day 1: Employing Staff

  • Employer obligations and employee rights

  • Recruiting talent

  • Using the internet to attract the right candidates

  • The contract of employment

  • Essential policies and procedures and the staff handbook

  • Welcoming new staff and the induction process.

Day 2: Managing Staff Performance

  • Engaging and motivating employees

  • Overview of the appraisal process

  • Introduction to training needs analysis

  • The basics of job evaluation

  • Overview of handling poor performance

  • Managing absence and turnover

  • Handling disciplinary & grievance situations.

What will I get out of the training?

You will learn how to recruit the right staff, and how to support employees with appropriate policies and procedures. Covering key employment issues including recruitment, employment law and performance management, you will look at how to help progress employees’ careers, and how to best manage performance issues.

Unless specified, courses commence at 9:30am and finish at approximately 4:00pm.  The day is broken up into modules, both online and offline to ensure engagement and interaction.  We also ensure that there are plenty of comfort breaks throughout the day.

Courses commences at 9:30am and finish at approximately 4:30pm. On all our scheduled courses, a hot lunch is included, and refreshments are provided throughout the day.

  • In-house & bespoke courses, held virtually or at a venue of your choice

Who is this accredited by?

Our HR Essentials for Managers training course is accredited by The Institute of Leadership & Management and aligns to their Associate Membership Grade, which is equivalent to the ILM Level 3 qualification. 

On our Scheduled courses, you will now be automatically registered to become Members with The Institute for 1-year, providing access to all their brilliant online resources, and you can also use letters after your name (AMInstLM).

What is my experience?

 Lisa is a competent, innovative, customer focused HR professional with commercial drive and strategic vision.  She is accomplished at working at strategic management team level, providing both direction and front line HR support to businesses.

During her time as an HR consultant, Lisa has developed specialised skills in the areas of workplace investigations and conflict management. She is a highly skilled workplace investigator; recognised by her clients for her ability to navigate through highly complex employee relations issues and produce clear outcomes and recommendations that aid effective decision making.

Energetic and proactive while maintaining great sensitivity, Lisa is accustomed to working with conflict up to board level, in multi-cultural and multi-geographical settings. As an accredited mediator and conflict management coach mentor, Lisa is particularly well equipped to manage even the most deeply entrenched conflict situations.

Lisa is an instructor member of Mental Health First Aid England and is committed to promoting mental health first aid at work to the same level that physical first aid currently enjoys so the that “whole self” can thrive at work.

On the subject of Mental Health - During her years as an HR consultant, Lisa has developed a keen interest in mental health and wellbeing at work. She is passionate about challenging the stigma around mental ill-health and eliminating discrimination at work by developing awareness and understanding within the work setting.

On the subject of Conflict - An ADR accredited mediator and CINERGY accredited conflict management coach mentor, Lisa has considerable expertise in the area of workplace and community conflict management.

On the subject of Workplace Investigations - Lisa has considerable expertise in investigating and resolving difficult employee relations issues at all levels for companies working within the jurisdiction of UK, European and International Administrative law.

Lisa is a skilled trainer whose style of delivery is both engaging and informative. She has developed and delivered numerous training programmes, workshops and seminars to managers, directors and professional peers on topics such as conflict management, workplace investigations and mental health and wellbeing at work. Lisa is a regular speaker on these topics for the Kent Branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and is a guest lecturer for the HR MBA programme at the University of Kent.
