This two-day HR Essentials for Managers course will introduce you to the fundamentals of HR Management, providing you with the relevant information you will need if you have limited HR experience. You’ll learn about the employment life cycle, the processes for recruiting new staff, and how to manage performance in a legal and effective manner.

This course is ideal for line managers and HR managers who need to understand the essentials of human resource management and employment law.

The knowledge from this course is also helpful for anyone looking to better understand their rights within the workplace, and how HR functions within a business.

What content will the course cover?

Day 1: Employing Staff 

  • Key stages of the employment life-cycle

  • Employer obligations and employee rights

  • Recruiting talent

  • Using the internet to attract the right candidates

  • The contract of employment

  • Essential policies and procedures and the staff handbook

  • Welcoming new staff and the induction process.

Day 2: Managing Staff Performance

  • Engaging and motivating employees

  • Overview of the appraisal process

  • Introduction to training needs analysis

  • The basics of job evaluation

  • Overview of handling poor performance

  • Managing absence and turnover

  • Handling disciplinary & grievance situations.

What will I get out of the training?

You will learn how to recruit the right staff, and how to support employees with appropriate policies and procedures. Covering key employment issues including recruitment, employment law and performance management, you will look at how to help progress employees’ careers, and how to best manage performance issues.

What is the duration of this course?

This is a 2 day course.

The timings and format for our courses are as follows:

Unless specified, courses commence at 9:30am and finish at approximately 4:00pm.  The day is broken up into modules, both online and offline to ensure engagement and interaction.  We also ensure that there are plenty of comfort breaks throughout the day.

  • Scheduled training courses held at one of our venues

Courses commences at 9:30am and finish at approximately 4:30pm. On all our scheduled courses, a hot lunch is included, and refreshments are provided throughout the day.

  • In-house & bespoke courses, held virtually or at a venue of your choice

Who is this accredited by?

Our HR Essentials for Managers training course is accredited by The Institute of Leadership & Management and aligns to their Associate Membership Grade, which is equivalent to the ILM Level 3 qualification. 

On our Scheduled courses, you will now be automatically registered to become Members with The Institute for 1-year, providing access to all their brilliant online resources, and you can also use letters after your name (AMInstLM).

What is my experience?

My career experience has always been focused on people management and development. I have always prioritised educating myself, and others, in personal and professional development.

I now partner with teams and individuals using a mix of approaches including: coaching, facilitation, training, consultancy and project management.

My strong people resourcing expertise covers: headhunting, recruitment, organisational design and business restructuring. Alongside my people management knowledge; my passion for process-design and integration, drove me to become a PRINCE II practitioner and to go on and lead major HR international projects including: mergers & acquisitions, business separation, and business transformation.

My delivery style is positive and energising and my collaborative style of approach engages and enthuses people around me.

I have a keen interest in Wellbeing and Mental Health,– and bring this knowledge through my experience as a Certified Wellbeing & Life Coach and my training as a Mental Health First Aider, into my work - supporting people’s capacity to build self-awareness to support their mental and emotional resilience.
