This two-day HR Essentials for Managers course will introduce you to the fundamentals of HR Management, providing you with the relevant information you will need if you have limited HR experience. You’ll learn about the employment life cycle, the processes for recruiting new staff, and how to manage performance in a legal and effective manner.

Day 1: Employing Staff 

  • Key stages of the employment life-cycle

  • Employer obligations and employee rights

  • Recruiting talent

  • Using the internet to attract the right candidates

  • The contract of employment

  • Essential policies and procedures and the staff handbook

  • Welcoming new staff and the induction process.

Day 2: Managing Staff Performance

  • Engaging and motivating employees

  • Overview of the appraisal process

  • Introduction to training needs analysis

  • The basics of job evaluation

  • Overview of handling poor performance

  • Managing absence and turnover

  • Handling disciplinary & grievance situations.

What will I get out of the training?

You will learn how to recruit the right staff, and how to support employees with appropriate policies and procedures. Covering key employment issues including recruitment, employment law and performance management, you will look at how to help progress employees’ careers, and how to best manage performance issues.

What is the duration of this course?

This is a 2-day course. 

The course commences at 9:30am and we aim to finish at approximately 4:30pm each day.
On all our scheduled courses, lunch is included and refreshments are provided throughout the day.

Who is this accredited by?

Our HR Essentials for Managers training course is accredited by The Institute of Leadership & Management and aligns to their Associate Membership Grade, which is equivalent to the ILM Level 3 qualification. 

On our Scheduled courses, you will now be automatically registered to become Members with The Institute for 1-year, providing access to all their brilliant online resources, and you can also use letters after your name (AMInstLM). 

Upon successful completion of this programme, you will also receive a formal certificate from The Institute of Leadership and Management.  

If the course is undertaken in-house, we offer the option of including membership and accreditation. This option is available for an additional fee of £75.00 per person + VAT.

Who I am?   

I have been a professional trainer for more than 20 years, 13 of which were as a Director and Principal Trainer with Kent Trainers.


What is my experience?

 I specialise in practical solutions to everyday challenges in the workplace. Focusing on communication skills, I like nothing better than involving myself in the day-to-day operations of organisations, large & small, in both the corporate and voluntary sectors.  I particularly enjoy working with clients who require multi-module training programmes - getting to know the delegates well and watching them progress in both skills and confidence.


What is my area of expertise?

My expertise is in communication skills: both the written and spoken word. I train in Minute Taking Skills, Business Writing Skills and Presentation Skills – giving delegates the confidence that their communications with colleagues and clients will lead to positive, productive and efficient relationships.  I also specialise in enhancing the performance of employees through training managers in handling poor performance and giving the knowledge of essential HR skills.


Why I love inspiring others?

I love working with delegates to build individual strategies for them to take back to the workplace to improve their own performance and the efficiency of their team. It’s very rewarding for me to see them listen and learn from each other and grow in confidence during the training experience.
